“I would first like to send a huge THANK YOU to Tim Rash from Amramp East Tennessee for saving our vacation to Pigeon Forge TN. Sean and I agreed to be chaperons on my son’s high school retreat. Although the cabin arrangements were made by the school, I was the one who found the listing for the cabin. I was the one who broke the cardinal rule of not asking enough questions!!!
When we arrived at the cabin on Sunday, we were all dismayed to find that the listing and all the information was wrong and the cabin was not any way close to being wheelchair accessible. It did not even have a ramp and of all the cabins in this complex, ours had the only non-paved parking. So what do you do?? You get on the internet and find a solution. Amramp!!!!
Thank goodness we had 5 very strong high school boys with us and with a little creative thinking we got Sean in the cabin. Let me just say I could not watch at all what they were doing. Now the problem was we were stuck in the cabin with no way out!!! Yea, didn’t think that one through at the time.
I am a problem solver so what do I do is get on the internet and find us a ramp. That is how I found Amramp and Tim Rash. I filled out the e-mail request on there web site with the hopes that I could buy a ramp the next day and then we would be able to get in and out. I received a call first thing Monday morning. Tim talked over our situation and gave me some options.
My hope of just buying a ramp was not going to work because they did not have one long enough on site that would go up the 3 (yes 3) tall steps and get us close enough to the van for his heavy chair to make it through the gravel. Most of the time you would just order one and are not faced with something like this.
Tim had another great option for us. He had a ramp that we could rent!!! Yes Rent!! They would even bring it the 60 plus miles to set it up and come back and take it down when we check out. He said they could be at the cabin in the next few hours. SOLD! Not only did they bring a very safe 10 foot ramp with handrails but also threshold ramps for free for us to use!
I can not say enough about the team at Amramp and Tim for helping us in our time of need and thinking outside the box to help us. Tim truly saved this week long retreat for us as well as the others on the trip. They checked in with us throughout the week and made sure everything was fine and we did not need anymore help. As promised, they were there when we checked out to take it all back to Knoxville. It was a wake up call for us to remember the rules of travel with a wheelchair or a person with limited mobility.
I will be perching my own set of portable ramps to have on hand from Tim and Amramp in the coming weeks. I have looked at ramps but just never knew what to get, so I never did buy any. I feel that with the personal attention Tim and his team gives we will have the correct ramp for our future needs.
Please check out their web site for all your needs and give Tim a call or fill out the customer contact form on the web site and they will get in touch with you and he will be more than helpful in getting you what you are looking for.
In my next post I will be going over the rules to remember when booking a cabin or even a hotel room along with some very important questions to ask.”
